One of the cuisines we love is Indian food. I’ve been dabbling in some dishes and although they come out amazing, they are time and ingredient intensive.
Panda has been wanting to eat Indian food for a long time. We finally got our chance one day when we had to take Spud to Austin for a job as an extra. We did some shopping and decided it was a good time to try out one of the nearby Indian restaurants.
We googled to find what choices we had, then checked out Yelp for the reviews. This led us to a little place called Asiana Indian Cuisine.
Asiana is located in a small strip mall right off of I-35. They have a lunch buffet every day except for Monday, when they are closed for the day. The weekends cost a little bit more but there are more choices those day too, including fish, which was very good.
They did not disappoint with the selections and even had some things I had never seen or heard of before. They had the usuals too…biryanis, tandoori chicken, butter chicken, naan and saag paneer. They also had salad, fresh fruit and at least 3 desserts.
One of my favorite dishes is saag paneer (spinach paneer). Asiana’s is one of, if not the best, that I’ve ever had and I’ve eaten and quite a number of different places. They also had some amazing pickles. If you’ve never had Indian pickles before, you are missing out. I like the green mango and lime ones. I think Asiana had both in theirs. I believe it was home made, at least it looked like it to me. Sharp, acidic and spicy, they are a good addition to the curries and some of the other dishes. They also had a beautiful kheer (rice pudding) that was refreshing and tasted of almonds and rose water.
Panda was happy and gave it a double thumbs up! The only thing I was sad about is that when we were leaving, I saw a notice near the door that said they made fresh dosas on request. I wish I had known. Well, it gives us a good reason to go back again (like we need one.)
