Dolphins Are Magical Creatures Too

I am drawn to the sea. I don’t know if it is because I have lived in Hawaii or if it is something else that calls to me. There is something very magical about our animal friends that live in the ocean.

When we visit Seaworld San Antonio, we noticed that after passing through security, most people head to the right. That makes sense since the entrance to the majority of the park is in that direction. It is where you will find all the rides, and most of the restaurants and events. Straight ahead would be the entrance to the waterpark.

If you are not in a hurry to get on a ride, I recommend you head left instead. You’ll pass a couple of gift shops and a coffee shop/bakery and enter Discovery Point.

Discovery Point is home to the dolphins, sharks and other reef and ocean creatures. Going early usually means little to no crowds. No jocking for space close to the exhibits. Feeding times occur during this time too so you might catch something you would miss any other time of the day.

You can view the dolphins both above and below the water. There are periodic talks and demonstrations given by the trainers during the day too.

If you go deeper into Discovery Point, you will come to Explorers Reef. Open the door and enter a whole new world. A huge tube aquarium with colorful fish greets you and as you continue through the building, you will find other fascinating animals. We got to spend some unrushed time watching the seahorses, shrimp, poison dart frogs and an assortment of fish. There are two HUGE aquariums in there. One housing reef fish and sting rays! The other has a few varieties of sharks and some other fish. The kids could park me in front of one of those tanks and leave me there all day and I’d be happy.

The inside of Explorers Reef is dark and AIR CONDITIONED! A great place to take a break, cool off and even let the kids nap. There are benches along the opposite wall from the big aquarium windows making it an ideal place for a little recharging.

This is one of our favorite places at the park. I’m sure you will enjoy it as much as we do.
